The method of this book concerns the estimation work of the welded piping systems construction and refers to pipe sizes ranging from (DN) of ¼” to 100” having a thickness from 1,20 to 59,54 (mm).

The core factor of the method is the Schedule Standard joint (DN, tSTD) which is set as a reference baseline point per each pipe DN range of thicknesses and identifies numerically:

1. How much harder it is to install a heavier (DN, ti > tSTD) to Schedule Standard wall pipe, resulting in a set with more man-hours than it would have if the work could be done on the same route profile but with the lighter Schedule Standard pipes, and
2. How much easier it is to install a thinner (DN, ti < tSTD) to Schedule Standard wall pipe, resulting in a set with fewer man-hourσ than it would have if the work could be done on the same route profile but with the heavier Schedule Standard pipes.

This factorized conversion helps the estimator afterward:

• To simplify the estimation work by referring to the Schedule Standard pipe size only, no matter the piping scope.
• Understanding and managing the competition better in a beneficial way to the bidding company.
• To produce faster and safer estimates, protected from the high and low extremes that could hurt the bidder.
• To control any competitor, even if only a single rate from them is known.

• To bring the bidding company one or more steps closer to the contract award.

Few words about the author...

Emmanouil Moulos is a Senior Mechanical Engineer holding a Diploma in Energy production. He has gotten his BSc from the Technical Educational Institute of Athens and the MSc from the National Technical University of Athens. Early in his career, since 1987, he had been mainly involved with EPC projects construction in Oil & Gas, working with well-established contracting firms in the construction industry around the globe, from the proposal to the field implementation phase of his successful project bids. In this long-term competitive environment, operating under the responsibility of building his project quotations, he developed early tools that could create reliable and safe bids away from the extremes of low or high prices that are often fatal to the bidding companies.
